How to Apply

Applying to the SWPBS Graduate Certificate Program

Students may apply for the Graduate Certificate in SWPBS:

  • along with their application an advanced degree program (i.e., MA, 6th Year, or PhD) in Special Education or a related area of study
  • upon acceptance into an advanced degree program in Special Education or a related area of study
  • as a non–degree student interested in gaining additional knowledge in SWPBS
  • or after completing the initial course in the sequence (i.e., EPSY 5141).

Application deadline is May 1. Applications will be reviewed each May (in time for fall admission), and may also be reviewed throughout the year if additional openings are available. Please note that the required sequence of courses takes 4 semesters (a minimum of 2 years) to complete.

The admissions committee will review only completed applications and support materials received by the application deadline.


To Apply:

For students currently enrolled in a graduate degree program at the University of Connecticut

  1. Complete an application to the Graduate School if you would like to submit an online application (preferred), please contact the Graduate School to request an application fee waiver. There is no charge to currently enrolled graduate students for application to graduate certificate programs.
  2. Submit the following materials, in one completed packet, to the Graduate School:
    • Personal statement focusing on experience, interest, and future endeavors in SWPBS
    • Minimum of two letters from references who can speak to your experience and potential in SWPBS

For non-degree students or students not currently enrolled in a graduate degree program at the University of Connecticut

  1. Review the admission requirements for the Graduate School
  2. Complete an application to the Graduate School.
  3. Submit the following materials, in one completed packet, to the Graduate School:
    • Official transcripts of all collegiate work completed to date
    • Connecticut Residence Affidavit
    • TOEFL or IELTS scores (international students)
    • Resume of not more than two pages
    • Personal statement focusing on experience, interest, and future endeavors in SWPBS
    • Minimum of two letters from references who can speak to your experience and potential in SWPBS
